Meet the Vahana Friends!

What is a Vahana?

In Hindu tradition, many Gods and Goddesses are associated with a vahana, an animal companion or vehicle that accompanies them. Ganesh has his mouse, Mooshika. Some other commonly known ones are Shiva's bull, Nandi, Vishnu's eagle, Garuda, and Durga's tiger, Dawon.

Together, these animals form one of the most memorable and visually rich parts of Hindu tradition. They also give us a wonderful way to introduce children to the stories, values, and symbolism behind Hinduism.

Vahanas are more than a way for the gods to get around. Their characteristics often complement or reflect qualities associated with the deity they accompany. Mooshika has meaning, with the mouse often interpreted as representing desires or the restless mind brought under Ganesha's guidance.

Meet the Vahana Friends

Vahana Friends takes inspiration from these traditional figures and reimagines them as characters children can know and love.

Our goal is to help kids of Indian descent learn about, celebrate, and feel proud of their cultural and religious heritage through stories, traditions, toys, and activities created with them in mind.

Mooshika is our first Vahana Friend. His story draws from his traditional role as Ganesha's mouse while giving him a new adventure of his own, helping families prepare for Diwali together.
